I. Safety Usage
- Inspection before Use

- Thoroughly check the ladder for any signs of damage, such as cracks, bent rungs, or loose joints. A damaged ladder can pose a serious safety risk. For example, if a rung is bent, it may not support the user’s weight properly, leading to a fall.

- Ensure that the ladder is the appropriate type for the task. For indoor use, an A – frame ladder is often suitable, while extension ladders are better for outdoor tasks like reaching high windows or the roof.
- Proper Setup

- Place the ladder on a stable and level surface. If the ground is uneven, use leveling devices or shims to make it flat. When setting up an extension ladder, the base should be placed one – quarter of the ladder’s working length away from the vertical surface it is leaning against. For instance, if the ladder is 12 feet long, the base should be 3 feet from the wall.

- Secure the ladder at the top and bottom if possible. At the top, tie it to a sturdy structure, and at the bottom, have someone hold it in place or use ladder stabilizers.
II. Maintenance

- Clean the ladder regularly to remove dirt, grease, and other contaminants. This not only keeps the ladder looking good but also helps prevent slipping. Use a mild detergent and water to clean the ladder, and make sure to dry it thoroughly before storing or using it again.
- Lubrication

- Lubricate moving parts of the ladder, such as hinges and extension mechanisms. Use a suitable lubricant, like silicone – based spray, to ensure smooth operation. This helps in easy extension and folding of the ladder and reduces wear and tear.
- Storage

- Store the ladder in a dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Moisture can cause rust on metal ladders, and excessive heat or cold can damage the materials. Hang the ladder horizontally or place it on a rack to prevent warping.
